bio & shows
Bio: Tanguy embraced photography as a teenager, inspired by his father and older brother.
The constant search for the prefect print allowed him to find refuge for long hours in the dark room of the (very chaotic) family apartment in Paris, France, equipped with his dad’s gear and chemicals, some of them dating back to his grandfather, an avid and extremely talented photographer.
Although Tanguy keeps his favorite 35 mm nearby ready for action, and recently brought back home his grandfather’s 1932 Voigtländer Brilliant, he now finds himself working mostly with a digital camera and, yes, a computer, a printer, and even a so-called smart phone.
He currently lives with his wife and three children in Washington, DC.
Photographic Directions: Tanguy’s photos capture light shed on objects, places, textures, or persons reminiscent of long gone childhood emotions and aspirations. Nostalgia and intimacy equally suffuse most of his work, from large scale skyscapes to barely discernible abstract elements. Somehow, he knows he’ll meet you there.
Shows: Tanguy has exposed locally, chiefly through Photoworks, a wonderful community of wise mentors eager to share Coffee and (inspiring) Critique that keep you going:
